INTRODUCING… Jay Knight and Assorted Hamish, our new Native Tongues hosts

Written by on April 3, 2022

Cats out the bag!!! This week we welcome Jay Knight and Assorted Hamish for their first show in their new weekly time slot as they bring you 1 hour of the freshest in underground music from Aotearoa. From bedroom producers who are just starting out through to artists with multiple releases on international labels, Native Tongues showcases the true sound of the underground.

Jay Knight needs no introduction. When we look at what he has done in the kiwi hip hop scene from the ripe age of 16 it’s incredibly impressive. Jay has worked alongside & produced for the likes of Melodownz, @Peace, Tom Scott, Razia Biza, Bailey Wiley with many more as well as supporing the likes of SchoolboyQ, ASAP Ferg, Oddisee, Mr Carmak, Troi boi & a raft of other well resepected names in Hip Hop. He has kicked 2022 off by joining forces with Cix50 for their new collaborative EP – Kererū. Outside of music Jay is originally from Timaru, then having spent many of his formative years in Windy Wellington – now being based in Auckland.

Whether it’s Kiwi’s doing good, the homies, entrepreneurs or artists – Hamish is all about watching, supporting those who love to express themselves! In 2021 he started work on both Assorted and 59 Seconds – two platforms for the purpose of showcasing creative individuals across Aotearoa. These projects inspired him to really connect with like minded people and document their stories on the Assorted: ORIGINS podcast. Hamish is from Dunedin, having been based up in Auckland for the past 10 years – he might have moved out of the south island – but can’t take the south out of him!
