This week’s Local Eyes is from Tāmaki Makaurau-based wordsmith Chris RL with his follow up to his debut EP ‘STILL’. Check out the video for his latest release ‘I’M ON MY WAY’ featuring fellow Aotearoa rappers, the Māngere-born duo SHEDLYTE, and West Auckland standout Ranuimarz.
Produced by SSU, ‘I’M ON MY WAY’ is a heartfelt rap tune that honours progress. An important part of Chris RL’s journey is being aware of his position and privilege, and that he acknowledges the empowerment his Polynesian friends give him. Through the ‘I’M ON MY WAY’ visuals, we see a strong brotherhood amongst the rappers and their close circles, as they rap about their struggles and open up about their lives. With tasty rap delivery, introspective lyricism, and mellow production, these 3 make a great team.
“It’s about looking at where we’ve all come from, remaining present, but also glancing to the future, and being grateful that we’re all on our way to where we want to be”, Chris RL explains.
