Bread & Butta

Thursday 6-8pm with Mark Yela & ReggieD
Bread & Butta is all about fresh, newly released underground Hip Hop. Independent label offerings, blog and Soundcloud discoveries as well as fresh releases from the minority who continue to fly the flag for true artistic expression. Hosted by ReggieD and sometimes his Frybread Radio compadre Mark Yela.
ReggieD is all about representing his Steez. He makes no bones about it, he is Hip Hop through and through. Although relatively fresh to the scene in terms of DJ’ing, his music collection tells a story of Hip Hop spanning from the 90’s all the way through to today. Constantly with his finger on the pulse, he really enjoys pushing the latest in releases, believing strongly that Hip Hop is still alive and kicking. Constantly learning Reggie loves joining the dots between artists, labels and eras forever piecing together the giant jigsaw that is his genre of choice. Not to mention passing his learnings on to his listeners.
A random mixtape of DJ Pottz playing on student radio in ChCh, coupled with a 12′ sub in the back of a mates 323, began Yela’s never ending hunt for ‘that perfect bassline‘. Influenced by mid/late 90’s jungle and all things dnb, Yela’s move to AK in 2001 intesified the need for that large, low, round bassline. Spending the next 9years listening to as much local, and international music as his bank balance allowed, Yela’s crate is now a broad spectrum of bassline orientated music.”Anything From KingTubby, to DeLaSoul, to Skream and in-between, if its got a bassline I’m in” .
15 years and he still cant find “that bassline” and has now lost his wallet too.
You can catch Reggie and Mark doing their thing live every Wednesday night at Rakinos for their Loose Change session. The Frybread crew is on from 5 – 9pm, playing a range of Hip Hop to warm you up and tempt you onto the dance floor. $6 Asahi on tap and Happy Hour from 3pm – 9pm and then AGAIN from 11pm – 1am on the night sure doesn’t hurt either!
