Brett Solomon (Solly) Music lover, Arsenal fan and all around nice guy began his musical journey in Wellington at a very early age. His dad introduced him to classic groups such as Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin and the Animals at the age of 7.
He gives massive thanks to his older brother who introduced him to Hip Hop around age 10, buying him his first record and getting him invloved the Hip Hop culture. He moved to Auckland in 1990 and brought his first set off turntables at the start of the 2000. He began playing House (the good stuff), Hip Hop and Funk and began DJing at spots around Auckland: Centro, Khuja and Fu bar in 2002.
After 5 or so years of DJing he began making beats with his long time friend Dave Rollie (Canosis) and has continued to develop and produce music to this day, his influences are varied including Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Reggae, House, Disco and Drum and Bass but still keeps the fundamental Groove and Funk as the corner stone of the music his plays and makes today. Under the producer name One Funky Soul Solly has started his own label FUNKIN DONUTS with the first release coming to your stereo very soon.
Finally Solly is dedicated to keeping the Vinyl Culture alive and kicking at his regular night 7HEAVEN at Rakinos. Playing only 45's all night is his way of breathing life back into the Vinyl Culture and the reason most of us started djing in the first place VINYL......................
Massive love to all the real DJ's doing there thing and of course the Base Fm whanau (family) and community.
